Uruguay can now export sheep meat and offal to El Salvador

He Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) confirmed that the International Health Certificate (CSI) for the export of raw and cooked sheep meat and offal, to The Savior.

The government portfolio confirmed the news through its X (Twitter) account last Monday, after several months of bilateral negotiations with authorities of the Central American country.

From the government, they assured that the approval of the sanitary certificates are part of a process of authorization of meat and refrigerated establishments to make shipments to that nation.

They also highlighted the joint work between the International Affairs Unit and the General Directorate of Livestock Services, both offices of the MGAP, together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay (MRREE), in the design of a “general strategy of diversification and opening of markets for national production”.

Uruguay formalized negotiations to export meat to El Salvador

Negotiations for the shipment of meat offal to The Savior They date from a few months ago, since in February the ministry had announced that the Central American country had given the go-ahead to the health certificate to import bovine and ovine meat from Uruguay.

On that occasion, the director of the International Affairs Unit, Adriana Lupinaccipointed out that The Savior authorized for one year the certificates for the shipment of viscera and edible offal of bovine and ovine origin.

That same month, 11 national refrigerators had been enabled for the export of meat, while additional information had been requested from another 14 by the Sanitary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of The Savior.

The application procedure for the approval of the sanitary certificate began from a request from the private sector, and then months of coordination between the MGAP, the Foreign Ministry, the National Meat Institute (INAC) and the embassies involved.
