According to the municipality of Zwettl on Wednesday, a water test carried out by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) found increased toxins from cyanobacteria – commonly known as blue-green algae. The recommendation that bathing is not recommended was first made last Friday.
A new check-up was carried out on Tuesday. The corresponding results are expected early next week. Regular sampling by AGES is to follow “in order to be able to monitor developments closely”.
It was pointed out that the district authority could not issue a bathing ban for lack of a legal basis. Due to the bathing water ordinance, however, “bathing is not recommended”, an announcement was made on the spot.
