Bored students get lower grades

Pupils get bored because they are under or overwhelmed by the tasks. A team of psychologists found out that excessive demands in particular are particularly detrimental to performance. If you are overwhelmed, all mental resources should flow into the task processing, but energy is lost through boredom and is no longer available for processing the tasks. “In order to combat boredom in exams, teachers should prepare exam tasks in such a way that there are references to the reality of students’ lives,” says educational psychologist Thomas Götz from the University of Vienna. In addition, excessively demanding tasks should be avoided.
