A Ried fair without a folk festival? Inconceivable. The amusement park with around 20 rides, marquee, wine hall and the covered Edelweiß-Alm has already opened its doors today, Thursday, August 31st, from 3 p.m. until Sunday, September 3rd. The official tapping of the beer takes place on Thursday evening with Mayor Bernhard Zwielehner. From Monday, the folk festival with a total of around 70 exhibitors will take a three-day break before it gets going again during the Rieder trade fair from September 7th.
“Admission to the amusement park is free every day. The marquee is already very, very well booked on the weekends,” says Exhibition Director Helmut Slezak. At the Rieder Messe 2021, the folk festival was reduced to four days due to the somewhat uncertain corona situation; this year, celebrations can be held for eight days again. “We are all the more pleased that the folk festival is starting a week before the opening of the trade fair,” says Slezak. Anticipation and tension alternated a bit for Volksfest project manager Philipp Murauer in the past few days, especially the heavy rain at the beginning of the week made construction in the amusement park difficult.
“The weather report for the coming days is very good, so the mood among the exhibitors is very good, despite the partly wet weather,” says Murauer in the OÖN interview. Around 2500 visitors fit into the marquee, the Fridays and Saturdays are already very well reserved, but there is a non-reserved area on all days for those who decide on the spur of the moment. In this case, an earlier visit to the beer tent is definitely advisable.

“Four-pillar model” as a trade fair recipe for success
In a week from today, Chancellor Karl Nehammer will open the Rieder Messe, which will be accompanied by the OÖN as a media partner. He represents Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, who apologizes. “The Rieder Messe gives space to future-oriented ideas and takes up long-term solutions such as the potential of digitization. Every two years, the fair raises society’s awareness of the importance of agriculture and animal husbandry,” says Nehammer.
Trade fair director Helmut Slezak and project manager Fabian Berneder emphasize the “unique four-pillar model”. “The themes of agriculture, Austrian animals, the autumn fair and folk festival probably make us unique in the entire German-speaking area. We are always trying to further develop this concept,” emphasizes Slezak. “With its long tradition and consistent future orientation, the Ried trade fair location stands for trade fairs and public fairs of the highest professionalism,” emphasizes Ried’s trade fair president Alfred Frauscher, who speaks of a “flagship event”.
There has been great interest in the Bundesheer performance show in recent years. “We move a total of 250 tons of steel in the area of the Red Zac Arena,” says Friedrich Rescheneder, Lieutenant Colonel of Panzergrenadier Battalion 13.
