The tour guide of the German Alpine Association was on the road with a group of six from the Ingolstadt house towards the Riemann house. On the descent between Ahlhorn (2,467 meters) and Mitterhorn, he slipped and fell more than 100 meters, the mountain rescue said. The emergency doctor of the rescue helicopter could only determine the death of the man.
The man’s shocked companions were brought down by helicopter and cared for by a crisis intervention team. It took a few hours to rescue the fatally injured person due to the local weather conditions, but the Libelle helicopter team finally managed to fly him down into the valley as well.
There were several serious alpine accidents in the Steinernes Meer last summer. It was not until mid-August that a 29-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district got caught in a hailstorm and fell to her death while descending from the Schönfeldspitze:
