Despite all the global challenges, there was no need to worry about the future for a few hours yesterday afternoon. On the contrary: at the open day on the occasion of 20 years of the Children’s University of Upper Austria at the educational campus in the Wehrgraben, it was like a beehive, the young researchers buzzed from station to station and infected everyone present with their thirst for knowledge. Whether it’s the Working World Museum or the Steyr Campus of the University of Applied Sciences – the houses and the space in between were filled with life.

Many network partners of the Children’s University had come up with exciting stations and aroused enthusiasm among the young students or those who want to become one. The area in the Wehrgraben was divided into the subject areas of nature, creativity, technology, Junior Maker Pioneers and exercise. When the weather was sunny, stand-up paddling, skateboarding and climbing were of course in high demand. But leading companies such as voest or Fronius were also able to captivate the young guests present with their offers. The stations of the natural spectacle, the Kalkalpen National Park or the mobile educational format of the technical museum called “roadLAB” were always very well attended.
Trying on an astronaut helmet was very popular with girls and boys.

Short lectures for adults were held in the new Digispace at Steyr University of Applied Sciences, for example Ille Gebeshuber gave an insight into bionics or Sonja Strasser gave a lecture on artificial intelligence. Ex-professional footballer Franky Schiemer spoke about football and stated: “Football connects and is a role model when it comes to integration.” Almost 2,500 students are taking advantage of the various offers of the children’s university throughout the country this year.
