As of tomorrow, Saturday, the Mona Lisa Tunnel can be used again, as reported, the total closure due to renovation was lifted a week earlier than originally planned. The joy of the traffic-plagued commuters is great.

With the traffic opening of the Mona Lisa Tunnel, the package of accompanying measures prepared for the closure will be unraveled again. From Monday, the Linz Linien will return to normal operation, which will put an end to the diversion of routes 11 and 19 via the extended Moosfelderstraße. As a result, the stops Saporoshjestraße, Ebelsberg, Ebelsberg Kaserne, Hillerstraße and Florianer Straße will again be served regularly by the two lines, and the morning frequency increase on tram line 2 between the stops Hillerstraße and Simonystraße will no longer apply.

Rental stations before dismantling

However, it is not excluded that the buses will return to the extended Moosfelderstraße, as traffic officer Vice Mayor Martin Hajart (VP) confirmed in the OÖN interview. By using the accompanying route, traffic jams can be avoided and public transport can be made more attractive. This is not only interesting for the planned bus line 13.

There are also considerations to permanently change the route of lines 11 and 19 and to run them over said route. However, nothing has been decided here yet, evaluations are currently being carried out, says Hajart. In addition, this would require changes to the concession: “We will not break anything over our knees.”

Hajart was able to allay the concerns of the residents that the motorcycles and mopeds would continue to use the detour route after the closure. In the future, they will no longer be allowed to do this, and here too the rule that applied before the tunnel renovation was used will be restored. This means that only more cyclists have a free ride.

Keyword bicycles: The pop-up city bike rental stations are in front of the dismantling. The demand was rather modest, says Hajart. The wheels will now be used in the east of Linz (here, as reported, there is an expansion offensive).
