The last performances – also in the 0:1 against the GAK – were good, now you want to use the two-week championship break to further refine your own game idea. “All the missing pieces of the puzzle are there,” says Ried sports director Wolfgang Fiala, referring to an intensive transfer time that ended at midnight on Friday: “Such a transfer time is unusual. There was a lot of change after the descent.” 14 kickers were added, 23 squad players from the previous season are gone – a change that also takes time, which is why Fiala knew very well that the start in the 2nd division in particular could be difficult. After the international break, there are no more excuses for the Vikings – especially since midfielder Nemanja Celic and storm hopeful Wilfried Eza have two more puzzle pieces available.
While the 26-year-old attacker from Ivory Coast is only missing the official stamp, which will hopefully allow him to travel to Austria in the coming days, Celic trained in Ried on Saturday. OÖN reported exclusively on both transfers.
Celic came on a free transfer
The change of the 24-year-old Celic was a classic deadline-day transfer – which was probably only possible for Ried on the very last day of the summer transfer period: Although there was loose contact with Darmstadt weeks ago, the transfer was still considered utopian at the time. After Michael Martin left the transfer final, Fiala made another appearance on August 31 with the native of Trauner, who was also in negotiations with Altach.
With success: While Ried’s kickers were in action in Graz on Friday, he signed a two-year contract shortly before midnight. Celic came to Ried on a free transfer because Darmstadt had terminated his contract. “Nemanja can become a very important player for us,” says Fiala, who is enjoying a week’s well-deserved vacation with his family in Mallorca after the hot transfer period from today. “The last few weeks have already taken their toll.” And they shouldn’t repeat themselves in this form: “The plan is that we only have to get three or four additional reinforcements in a year.”
