The National Party establishes that the necessary works in sanitation, cleaning and mobility were not carried out.

The councilors of Montevideo have disagreed about the resources provided to the quartermaster in the Accountability and the way in which Caroline Cosse previously managed those budgets.

The mayors of Montevideo, Claudio Visillac and Javier Barrios Boveof the broad front and the National Partyrespectively, had crosses regarding the management of the resources of the intendancy of Caroline Cosse where the opposition claims a lack of investment, while the ruling party assures that it lacks resources from the government.

According to VisYollac, it is necessary to take into account that Montevideo it has a different social reality from the other departments. “Montevideo is the department that has the most people in poverty, the most child poverty. It is the most unequal department. Where the family has a lower level of consumption compared to 2019,” the mayor assured Telemundo, who added that there is a very complex reality regarding people living on the streets.

On the other hand, he added that this problem is compounded by the political context where the government “suffocates” the mayor’s office economically and financially. “They cut us 31 million dollars from the metropolitan infrastructure fund. They did not renew the game of one hundred million dollars that the National Congress of Mayors. They have charged us with administrative costs of the Sucive, ”he explained.

With this, the Frente Amplio mayor assured that more than 200 million dollars were cut from the department. “It is not in investment, they are not under construction, and obviously the Municipality shows a surplus budget economically, but also a surplus at a social level because we did not turn our backs on all the problems that Montevideans have in the field of poverty” , said.

The response of the National Party

The mayor Barrio Bove also referred to the Montevideo’s budget and assured that there is a mismanagement of resources since investments are not taken into account. “Montevideo collects two million dollars a day from Monday to Sunday. 800 million dollars is the budget of the Municipal Government of Montevideo. More than 44 percent goes to salaries, personal benefits. Something like 37 percent goes to operating expenses and only 10 percent goes to the investments that Montevideo needs,” he explained.

In this sense, the mayor assured that the government preferred to grant resources to the departments that were further behind than Montevideo in economic matters. “Between giving a hundred million to Montevideo, that we didn’t know if they were needed or not, or give it to another interior department that is further behind and doesn’t collect as much as Montevideo, or allocate it to health, social, it was an option National government”, established Barrio Bove.
