Karin Peschka from Eferding for “Dshomba” (Otto Müller Verlag Salzburg)
Teresa Präauer for “Cooking in the Wrong Century” (Wallstein Verlag)
Born in Linz Praauer is also for the nominated for the German Book Prize endowed with 25,000 euros
(Award: October 16 at the Frankfurt Book Fair).

Milena Michiko Flašar – “Earth Above, Heaven Below” (Wagenbach Verlag)
Susanne Gregor – “We will fly” (Frankfurt publishing house)
Wolf Haas – “Property” (Carl Hanser Verlag)
Maja Haderlap – “Night Women” (Suhrkamp Verlag)
Bodo Hell – “gifted trees” (literature publisher Droschl)
Clemens J. Setz – “Moons before landing” (Suhrkamp Verlag)
Christina Walker – “Little School of Flying” (Braumüller Verlag)
Since the call for entries began, the five jury members have viewed a total of 137 works of fiction, essay, poetry and drama that were or will be published between October 10, 2022 and October 10, 2023.
In a further step, the jury selects five titles from the titles on the longlist for the shortlist of the Austrian Book Prize, which will be published on October 10, 2023. Only on the evening of the award ceremony on November 6 will the five authors find out from the shortlist who will win.
This also applies to the three nominees in the “Debut Prize” category of the Austrian Book Prize:

Also in the running are:
Arad Dabiri – “Drama” (Septime Verlag)
Thomas Oláh – “Doppler” (Müry Salzmann Verlag), he is also in the running for the German Book Prize.
The winner from the longlist receives 20,000 euros, the other four in the final (shortlist) each receive 2,500 euros.
The debut prize is endowed with 10,000 euros, the other two in the final also receive 2,500 euros.
