The jury found unanimously that the man killed his 63-year-old father with at least 37 stab and cut injuries with a combat knife in September 2022. However, most of them followed the explanations of the court psychiatrist, according to which the 39-year-old was of unsound mind.
The court had previously disagreed between the public prosecutor’s office and the defense about the person’s sanity after various reports had been issued. Forensic psychiatrist Adelheid Kastner, however, clearly denied the sanity. Six of the eight jurors subsequently agreed.
The 63-year-old was found dead in his apartment in Innsbruck after relatives became concerned. The officials had entered the apartment in Innsbruck’s Hötting district via the balcony, where the blood-covered corpse was finally discovered. At the same time, the then 38-year-old came to an Innsbruck police station and claimed to have killed someone.
