India could change its name and sparked controversy: what would it be called?

India plan change the name and the idea generated controversy not only locally but also worldwide, in view of what will be the g20 Summit, which will take place in the capital New Delhi from 9 to 10 September.

The most populous country on the planet is facing a unique possibility promoted by the Government which, if materialized, would be renamed with a particular identification that gives a special meaning: Bharat.

Why would India change its name?

President Narendra Modi was who used this term to announce the G20 meeting. But the announcement in front of all the heads of state and ministers, where she signed as “president of Bharat”, did not do it in vain, since it has a distinctive meaning: it is India in Hindi.

Echoing the news, Indian officials gave the go-ahead, saying a resolution is likely to be addressed at a special session of Parliament, between the 18th and the 22nd of September. As they specified, it is aimed at a response to a recent opposition alliance bloc calling itself INDIA, an acronym that stands for “Inclusive Alliance for National Development of India,” says La Nación.

For his part, he Goverment’s head of the Indian state of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarmadid not miss the opportunity and expressed his feelings on the new social network x (ex Twitter): “Happy and proud that our civilization is bravely advancing towards the Amrit Kaal,” he shared.

In this sense, local sources specified that “Amrit Kaal”, which translates as the “Golden age”, is a term that the prime minister and other government officials are using to refer to the years leading up to 2047, the year of centenary of independence. For this reason, they confirm that by then, the India it will be among the most prosperous and developed countries on the planet.

“The whole country is demanding that we use the word ‘Bharat’ instead of ‘India’The word ‘India’ is a term imposed on us by the British Empire, while the word ‘Bharat’ is a symbol of our culture.… I want there to be a change in our Constitution and add the word ‘Bharath’ to the same…”, declared the deputy of the party of the prime minister Narendra Modi, BJP, Harnath Singh Yadav to the ANI news agency.

Not long ago, the former Chief Justice of the India, Sharad Bobde had stated that “the India is already called Bharat in the Constitution.” As well as another former Chief Justice, T.S. Thakurwho stated that it was up to the citizens to decide whether they wanted to call it India or Bharat.

Some sense that this whole move could be a strategic move by the prime minister to enhance Indian pride in front of the world leaders who will appear in the next summit of the G20.
