The fee will be applied on a trial basis for 30 days next year, mainly on spring holidays and summer weekends, when tourism is at its peak. All visitors older than 14 years.

The aim is to find “a new balance between the rights of those who live, study or work in Venice and those of those who visit the city”, explained the Councilor for Tourism, Simone Venturini.
The exact dates of the plan and its operation will be agreed after the final approval of the boardscheduled for next week.
When was the idea of charging tourists in Venice first raised?
The plan, which was first raised in 2019was postponed at first due to the Covid-19which kept tourists away, and later for technical and procedural reasons.
Visitors have returned to Veniceand out-of-towners often outnumber the 50,000 or so residents of the city center, crowding its narrow lanes.

He overtourism has long been a problem for the fragile city.
In July, experts from the Unesco recommended that Venice and his lagoon were added to his list of World Heritage in Dangerclaiming that Italy was not doing enough to protect the city from the impact of climate change and mass tourism.
