With the end of the holidays in western and southern Austria as well as in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the last major wave of travel this summer is imminent. The ÖAMTC mobility club expects heavy return travel northbound on Austria’s transit routes. In addition, late vacationers who are not tied to the summer holidays will probably set off towards the Upper Adriatic. The busiest travel day is expected to be Saturday again, but there will also be heavy convoy traffic on the main travel routes on Sunday, according to the experts.
According to ÖAMTC mobility information, the Karawanken Tunnel – Villach – Salzburg – Munich connection will be the main burden. Traffic jams can occur especially in front of the Karawanken Tunnel (A11), on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) before the Werfen tunnel group and in the section between Hallein and Salzburg junction as well as on the West Autobahn (A1) before the Walserberg border crossing. In addition, there will be greater time losses in sections on the A8 in Bavaria between Salzburg and Munich.
Other storage areas
Ost autobahn (A4) at the Nickelsdorf border crossing, Innkreis autobahn (A8) at the border crossing near Suben, Pyhrn autobahn (A9) especially in the construction site areas of St. Pankraz – Windischgarsten and Gratkorn Nord – Ubelbach, as well as in front of the Bosruck and Gleinalm tunnel toll booths.
Inntal Autobahn (A12) Kufstein border crossing, Brenner Autobahn (A13) especially before the Schönberg tollbooth, Fernpass route (B179) throughout the course between Nassereith and Füssen.
Major events: Bike Week and Autumn Fair
The 25th edition of the European Bike Week will take place in Carinthia until Sunday, September 10th. More than 100,000 enthusiastic motorcycle fans will make a pilgrimage to the Faaker See area (Villach, Villach-Land, Feldkirchen). Among other things, Faakersee Straße (B84) and Faaker Ufer Straße (L53) will be closed around Lake Faaker See. On Saturday, the Villach – Ossiacher See (A10) junctions will be closed between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the Wernberg exit (A2) between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
From Wednesday, September 6th to Sunday, September 10th, the 75th edition of the annual Autumn Fair will take place in Dornbirn. There will be delays in the area of the Dornbirn West, Dornbirn Süd and Hohenems junctions of the Rheintal Autobahn (A14). In addition, Lustenauer Strasse (L204) will be congested at the Messepark, Höchsterstrasse and Josef-Ganahl-Strasse roundabouts. The ÖAMTC recommends using public transport for arrival and departure. The admission ticket for the autumn fair entitles you to free travel by bus or train throughout Vorarlberg.
In general, experts recommend avoiding unnecessary journeys and planning sufficient time and breaks for necessary journeys.
