The announcement that around 300 children with disabilities in Linz will no longer be taken to school, after-school care or kindergarten from Monday triggered a public outcry. As reported, the provider Herbert Zauner demanded a tariff increase because the transports could no longer be carried out cost-effectively. An agreement was not reached, which is why Zauner did not apply for a new contract, but promised yesterday to transport the children for another month in the hope that “politicians will use this time to finally find a solution”.

“Intense Efforts”

It is still unclear whether this will come about. In the competent family ministry, reference is made to several discussions that by the locally responsible Linz customer team of the Austrian tax office with the Linz magistrate and transport companies. “Everyone involved is currently making further intensive efforts to find a solution and to ensure transport for the students,” says a statement.

The tariffs for school transport have also been increased by 18 percent since the 2020/2021 school year. In the new school year, an increase of seven percent was negotiated.
