Ried’s trade fair director Helmut Slezak has had a pad and pen on his bedside table for a few weeks. “There are nights when I write down five things”Slezak said recently in an interview with OÖN.

The coming nights will probably be a little shorter for the 56-year-old, who has been head of the Ried trade fair since 2005, project manager Fabian Berneder and the team during the large Ried trade fair. Starting early in the morning, exhibitors will put the finishing touches on the more than 500 stands on the more than 14-hectare exhibition site before thousands of visitors flock to the large exhibition area from 9 a.m. in late summer weather. Up to 100,000 visitors are expected, and tens of thousands more at the neighboring folk festival.

“We are all happy and looking forward to getting started, there is a very special but positive tension. To me, it feels like there’s a very important football game coming up with all eyes on you”says Slezak, who was active as a professional player for LASK, Vienna and Salzburg, among others.

In addition to the agricultural focus, where the latest trends in agricultural and forestry technology, plant cultivation and feedstuffs are presented, national mare shows for Noriker and Haflinger horses will be held at the Rieder exhibition center for the first time in 39 years.

The Fleckvieh Breeding Association Inn- and Hausruckviertel (FIH) was represented with its animal shows for the first time in 1899.
