The question to the ministers of Economy and Finance (MEF), Azucena Arbeleche, and of Foreign Relations, Francisco Bustillo —due to the complaints of political clientelism in the Mixed Technical Commission (CTM) of big jump that impact the government of Uruguay and, above all, to National Party-, will take place on October 3, with the support of the broad front, but also of Town meeting. In this sense, the leader of the sector belonging to the Multicolor Coalition, Guido Manini Ríos, He also insisted on conducting an audit.
After the first complaints, the controversy did not wait. With the president of the CTM of Salto Grande, Carlos Albisu, At the center of the storm, accusations about political clientelism are the government’s new headache, in the midst of a tense relationship with Cabildo Abierto and the debate to finish approving the law of Accountability.
There are two reasons: on the one hand, the recruitment in favor of National Party councillors, which resulted in the direct entry of 35 people in three years to positions that should have been by competition; on the other hand, the allocation of an additional budget item for 200 million pesos —Which, although from the MEF they indicated that it was for “operating costs”, from the opposition they point out that the destination was the high salaries of those hired irregularly.
For this reason, the Broad Front presented a motion to the House of Representatives to question Arbeleche and Bustillo —a request that was accompanied by the Open Cabildo—, which will finally happen next October 3, from 10. The questioning member will be the Frente Amplista deputy Nicholas Viera.

Among the parties with the highest representation in the Lower House, the National Party did not vote on the appeal, while the Colorado Party He was in favor of a call to the room, which in the best of cases would be only for the directors of the CTM of Salto Grande. The objective would seem to be clear: in the event that irregularities do exist, the best thing for the government is that patronage actions are reserved solely for the directly responsible, without clouding the management of the Executive Power —which is linked to the interpellation of two important ministers of the administration.
However, the expected request of the Broad Front was accompanied by the Open Cabildo, in an attitude that could bring new problems within the coalition. For the senator and leader of the sector, Manini Ríos, the interpellation will serve to have a lucky accountability of the Uruguayan delegation in the CTM. I think the worst that can happen is that doubts remain,” she added.
Likewise, the former head of the Army went further and considered it necessary to install a audit to do one thorough investigation, see well everything that has been spent; if it is consistent with the purpose for which the mixed technical commission was created”. “In that spirit” the party accepted the votes for the appearance of the ministers.
According to Manini Ríos, the information he received from the Salto Grande CTM—in which neither the Broad Front nor the lobbyists have representatives—makes a more serious study necessary. “Some officials have come to give us some information, that we are going to analyze it; I haven’t had direct contact with Albisu, yet,” she commented.
For his part, the President Luis Lacalle Pou supported the management of Carlos Albisu at the head of the CTM, but assured that his pulse will not tremble to take measures in the case of verifying the irregularities in the contracts.
