The girl from the Salzburg-Land district was out with a hiking group (two adults and eight children) around 6 p.m. in the area of the Hohenzollerweg, a circular route around the Jainzen mountain. According to police, the six-year-old’s parents were not there. The girl was probably playing in a stream bed with the other children when the accident happened. A massive stone came loose and fell on the girl, burying her. The six-year-old was trapped in the chest area.
A large contingent of emergency services (rescue, emergency doctor, police, alpine police and mountain rescue) rushed to the scene of the accident, but were unable to save the girl – resuscitation had to be started on site. The six-year-old died at the scene of the accident and was then carried into the valley by rescuers. A requested crisis intervention team took care of the girl’s carers and friends, but also the emergency services.
