A two-hour closure of Aisttalstraße this morning between 9 and 11 a.m. led to significant traffic disruptions in the center of Schwertberg. However, climate activists were not responsible for this: the SPÖ Schwertberg had requested the blockade from the authorities in order to draw attention to necessary improvements in road safety.

There are three points that we want to advance with this campaign, said SP deputy mayor Karl Weilig: “The Billa intersection at the entrance to the schools must definitely be made safer. To do this, we would like to create the opportunity for us as a community to decide for ourselves “We are allowed to set up a 30 zone with citizen participation, which will also be monitored accordingly. The third point would be to set up shuttle buses on the exit from the B124 into the Josefstal to our large companies. That would relieve pressure on the streets and residents.” Also taking part in the protest were SP district chairman LAbg. Erich Wahl and Walter Hofstätter, chairman of the community representatives association in the Perg district.

Mayor Max Oberleitner (VP) showed little understanding for the protest, who in the OÖN interview referred to many angry callers who had complained to the municipal office about the block: “We have already put solutions in place for many of the points requested. These “We would like to discuss this with citizens on the market square at the end of September as part of the Road Safety Week. That would have been a more suitable setting instead of segregating people with this blockade.”
