The officers were alerted because the man had threatened a 39-year-old with a pistol. The murder weapon was a pistol that the man had stolen during one of eight burglaries. The accused was arrested and taken to the Klagenfurt prison, the police said on Saturday.
On Thursday, several people reported that the 49-year-old was handling a pistol. He denied to the police that he had a weapon with him. A half-loaded handgun and two magazines with ammunition were then found in the man’s backpack. It soon turned out that the weapon had been stolen during a burglary on September 2, 2023, and the man was also found to have committed seven other burglaries in restaurants and retail establishments in Klagenfurt. These were carried out between August 19th and September 4th.
The 49-year-old, who has no permanent address, stole cash and tobacco products and also ripped furniture safes from their anchorages. The pistol was in one of the safes. The break-ins caused damage amounting to tens of thousands of euros.
