The German Lukas Meiler (Team Vorarlberg) and the Hungarian Petra Zsanko (Massi Tactic Women’s Team) were the shining winners of the Mühlviertler Hügelwelt Classic in Königswiesen. In late summer temperatures, the selective route turned into a tough elimination race for both women and men. The first strong groups broke away from the field early on in the race. After the first big loop around Königswiesen, Meiler and his teammate Colin Stüssi, who recently won the Tour of Portugal, found themselves in a leading group of ten. From lap to lap, this group became smaller until Meiler and Stüssi entered the final climb, which was made of cobblestones and was more than 20 percent steep. The two crossed the finish line side by side – with Meiler having a slight advantage.

“Colin and I really wanted to win this race. The fact that it was even enough for a double victory is very special,” said Meiler, who already won a race in the “Road Cycling League Austria” in Wieselburg last season . He crossed the finish line side by side with his teammate Stüssi, who then easily gave way to him.

In the women’s race, the Hungarian Zsanko beat the Styrian Elisa Winter. Winter thus secured overall victory in the “Road Cycling League Austria”. “I’m overjoyed with the end result. The legs promised a good result,” beamed the young athlete from Gleisdorf. She was able to secure the overall league victory in her first year as a professional and is considered a great promise for young talent in local women’s cycling.
