This is confirmed by a study in Melbourne, the results of which are presented in the journal “Ecological Solutions and Evidence”. A sevenfold increase in insect species was found in the area examined within three years. The analysis confirms the ecological benefits of urban greening projects. The detected species fulfilled different functions, explained study author Luis Mata. Some of the animals are important for recycling nutrients, others are very popular as prey for reptiles or birds, and others keep pests in check.
