“Sunday was the best day, but that’s almost always the case,” said Ried’s trade fair director late yesterday afternoon during a final, short tour of the trade fair in an interview with the OÖN.

At 4 p.m., in almost 30 degrees and sunshine, thousands of visitors were still milling about on the 14 hectare exhibition grounds with more than 500 exhibitors. “Overall, we can draw a very positive conclusion. It was extremely hot, but it’s better than rainy weather. We had very good visitors, wonderful special shows, and I believe that the majority of the exhibitors can be very satisfied,” said Helmut Slezak. It was possible to provide an “important economic impulse” in these not so easy times. “The atmosphere was wonderful on all four days,” said Slezak.

There was particularly great interest in the top-class international animal shows in the FIH Arena. For the first time in almost 40 years, two federal mare shows for Noriker and Haflinger took place in Ried. “We as organizers and also the breeders are very satisfied with the two federal shows for Noriker and Haflinger horses; the mares presented were of an extremely high standard. The public response was very good,” said Natascha Stolka from the Central Working Group of Austrian Horse Breeders.

The Rieder Volksfest was open for two long weekends and eight days with around 70 exhibitors. The biggest crowd was last weekend. While the outdoor areas were busy late into the night, the wine hall was less busy, unlike in previous years.

Winemaker Christian Größlbauer from the Christian winery in Mehrnbach was a popular meeting place with his open-air stand in front of the entrance to the wine hall. “The weather obviously played into my hands. There was an incredible amount of activity on the second weekend. The atmosphere was excellent,” said Größlbauer.

The police drew a positive conclusion. “In relation to the number of visitors, we only rarely had to intervene,” says Thomas Hasenleitner, deputy district police commander.

The next Rieder trade fair will take place in two years, from September 4th to 7th, 2025.
