Actually, the linden trees on the Pfarrkirchner town square have already been felled. At the next local council meeting on Friday, September 15th, the future of the two mighty trees will be on the agenda again.
The meeting from 7 p.m. is open to the public and anyone interested can take part. Ulrike Pühringer, a vehement campaigner for the two almost 100-year-old winter linden trees, invites you to listen to what happens next with the trees. After an expert report predicted a maximum lifespan of twelve years, the local council has already decided to fell it. Another report, which Pühringer tried to obtain, gives the linden trees a much better rating, which is why it is now being discussed again. The tree protectors received unexpected support from Rupert Uttenthaler from Geboltskirchen. The arborist and speaker at the Rural Training Institute (LFI) examined the trees from above on his own initiative and documented all the cutting points. According to his findings, the linden trees have enormous vitality and there is no apparent fungal infection at the cutting points. “Both trunks are almost perfectly cylindrical. From this we can derive a unique genetic finding that is worthy of protection,” says Uttenthaler, who assures us that the trees are much healthier than expected. Only professional renovation is strongly recommended for preservation. For the Pfarrkirchner tree protectors, this is a confirmation that the village linden trees must be preserved. There is no reason not to let the trees continue to grow in the future.
