In the Franckviertel, the smuggler jumped out of the car and ran away. The fugitive was caught around 1:50 a.m., the state traffic department of the Upper Austrian police said on Wednesday.
Almost two hours earlier, around 12:30 a.m., the Haid motorway police wanted to stop the car on the A7 for a traffic check. The driver ignored what the police said were “clear stop signs” and fled via the Wiener Straße motorway exit. He raced through the Linz city area and chased the police patrol for several kilometers. At the intersection of Füchselstrasse and Ing. Stern Strasse in the Franckviertel, the driver stopped the car and fled on foot towards Schrebergarten.
There were three Turks and a Kosovan in the car who were staying in Austria illegally, according to the police. The inmates were arrested and taken to the Linz police detention center. The arrested smuggler is a 32-year-old from Albania.
