“He suffers from schizophrenia and is classified as dangerous,” said Ulrike Breiteneder, spokeswoman for the Linz public prosecutor’s office, to the “Krone”. The man is said to have stabbed his 42-year-old wife three times with a knife early on January 9th. Their eleven-year-old daughter apparently jumped at him and may have saved the mother’s life. After the attack, the Iraqi went to see a supposed rival at his place of work. He is said to have threatened him with two knives.
Assault rifle snatched from police officer
When he encountered a roadblock while fleeing, he is said to have knocked over and seriously injured a 21-year-old policewoman and a 26-year-old policeman. He snatched the assault rifle from the officer and forced a driver to let him take the car. Shortly afterwards he caused an accident. The attempt to steal another vehicle failed. Several warning shots from the police finally made him give up.
Accommodation instead of pre-trial detention
Based on the psychiatric report now available, the public prosecutor’s office has requested that the 42-year-old’s pre-trial detention be converted into temporary placement in forensics. It can be assumed that placement in a forensic therapeutic center will also be requested in a trial.
