The fire department was deployed on Wednesday morning at the Otterbach agricultural vocational school in St. Florian am Inn. There the students heated a cauldron to distill schnapps, which is part of the lesson. But suddenly a pipe caught fire and a lot of space formed in the room. A teacher managed to successfully contain the flames using a fire extinguisher. All students left the affected wing. The emergency services from the St. Florian fire department only had to search the building for embers with a thermal imaging camera and then carry out ventilation measures. Five students were taken to the Schärdinger Clinic with suspected smoke poisoning. The cause of the fire could have been defective insulation, it was said.
