300,000 young trees to secure our protective forests

60 percent of protective forests are yellow, with just over a quarter of the area in the “green area”.

Bark beetle infestation, storm and snow damage: When several damaging events follow one another, as recently happened in East Tyrol, the protective forests suffer particularly, says Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig. The most important strategy is reforestation, especially with larch and fir trees. 300,000 young trees are to be planted this year, with the focus being on Upper Austria, Salzburg and Tyrol.
