Poland announced today that starting tomorrow the entry of cars with Russian license plates into the country will be prohibited, regardless of “whether the owner is a Russian citizen or from another State,” in a sanction that is added to those already announced by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland.

“Due to the publication on September 8 of the recommendations of the European Commission (EC) on the ban on the entry into the European Union of vehicles registered in Russia, this ban will be in force at the Polish border from midnight tonight,” reported the Polish Ministry of the Interior.

The organization clarified that the ban applies to absolutely all cars with a Russian license plate.

“This applies to all vehicles, both commercial and private, regardless of whether the owner is a citizen of Russia or another state. The principle is that a car registered in Russia does not have the right to enter Poland,” the ministry explained. in a statement replicated by the Sputnik news agency.

This week, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland also decided to ban the entry of vehicles from Russia. All are members of the North Atlantic Organization (NATO), which condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine

These decisions are made known after the EC published a note on September 8 that clarified that the sanctions imposed by the Council of the EU against Russia also applied to personal vehicles registered there.

Consequently, according to the EC text, people with Russian nationality do not have the right to enter the European Union in their cars, even for tourist purposes, not even for a short time.
