The made-up word can be translated as “three” (“mitsu”) and “water chestnut (“hishi”), which in Japanese is often the name for diamonds. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) was founded in the early 1970s.
Eight years after MMC was founded, on April 12, 1978, the Denzel company was able to sign an import contract for Austria. Initially, Mitsubishi was represented with the compact Lancer sedan (based on the Colt at the time) and the Celeste sports coupe (based on the Lancer). The first Colt followed in Austria shortly afterwards, which was offered as a front-wheel drive car with a tailgate, the famous “eight-speed gearbox” and also as a turbo with 105 hp.
From Starion to 3000GT
Other three-diamond models included the Sapporo, the Starion and the 3000GT. While some models disappeared, others remained in the Mitsubishi range for a long time: Lancer, Galant, Carisma, Pajero, the L200 pick-up and the Space Star. The Outlander came onto the market in 2003, followed in 2009 by the fully electric i-MiEV model.
For the 45th anniversary, Denzel is launching special models with lavish features, such as the Space Star edition45. Starting price: 14,990 euros. Or the ASX edition45, which is available from 25,990 euros. The Eclipse Cross PHEV edition45, on the other hand, costs from 40,190 euros.
