Protesters planning sabotage on the anniversary of Amini’s death arrested in Iran

Iranian security agents today arrested protesters who intended to carry out a series of sabotage and attacks on the first anniversary of protests in the country after the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who was in prison accused of not complying with the women’s dress rules.

“Iran’s security forces captured several terrorists who had plotted to shoot people at an illegal demonstration in Saqqez (Amini’s birthplace), a city in the western province of Kurdistan,” local news agency Tasnim reported.

The arrest was for four people and a series of weapons and equipment were confiscated, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, hunting shotguns, knives and two uniforms of the Iranian military forces, the Sputnik agency reported.

The discovery of the two uniforms reveals that the protesters had hatched a plot to shoot people and blame the Iranian military forces for the crime.

Furthermore, the Tasnim agency indicated that in recent days, in the cities of Sanandaj and Marivan, several members of anti-government extremist groups were arrested who were planning to carry out a series of sabotage attacks and thus undermine the security of the province of Kurdistan.

Tasnim noted that almost a hundred people were also arrested in Isfahan province, urging both citizens and villagers to start riots and protests in the region.

Likewise, he reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) identified and detained in the town of Qarchak, located about 20 kilometers south of Tehran, one more extremist with plans to carry out attacks in the capital.

In recent days, Iran’s security forces have been on alert due to the first anniversary of Amini’s death today, which was the trigger for protests and unrest in the country for months.

According to authorities, Amini, a 22-year-old girl, was taken to a police center for an explanatory talk, where she suffered cardiac arrest while in custody and, although she was immediately taken to a hospital, she died three days later.

His death gave rise to an unprecedented protest movement in recent years in Iran that resulted, according to the non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights, in more than 550 deaths due to the repression of protesters.

Iranian authorities believe that the riots were orchestrated from abroad and accused Western countries of supporting the protesters, who spread “subversive and anti-Iranian” messages in the media and called for the overthrow of the Iranian government.
