Four quarters a year. This does not mean the amount of wine that guests taste at the wine shows, but rather the frequency of the regular OÖN wine tastings.
The wine show is held quarterly in a different Upper Austrian district. On Friday there was the premiere in the Lower Mühlviertel on the Moser Alm in Mönchdorf.
Gourmet cuisine and wine
The restaurant of Sandra Lumetsberger-Danninger and Markus Danninger is located 40 kilometers from Linz in an idyllic landscape, surrounded by forests and rolling hills and is known for weddings, carriage rides – and the Kistenbratl. With the return of son Niko two years ago, the family developed the down-to-earth inn into a restaurant with fine cuisine, without neglecting tradition.

Box bratl is still available, as is award-winning cuisine – and, increasingly, wine. The innkeepers want to promote the topic in the Mühlviertel and are therefore organizing the OÖNachrichten wine show.
The public tasting always follows the same principle. The guests taste the wines submitted on a specific theme blindly so as not to be confused by labels or well-known names. The wine whose twelve bottles are drunk first emerges as the winner of the wine show.

Before that, the sommeliers taste the wines in secret, judge them according to the 20-point system and choose their favorite. At the end of the wine show, the audience’s rating is compared to the sommelier’s rating.
The best of the thermal region
This time, fine wines from the thermal region were tasted, which is the new DAC area in Austria with the 2023 vintage. The stars include Pinot Noir and St. Laurent. It is not for nothing that the region is also called “Burgundy of Austria” designated. Both grape varieties were cross-tasted by the sommeliers Reinhold Baumschlager and Philipp Braun as well as the host Markus Danninger and the expert audience.
The experts really liked the St. Laurents that evening. The St. Laurent Ried Iglsee from the Drexler-Leeb winery in Perchtoldsdorf was particularly convincing. The Schwertführer winery came second “47s” from Sooß, also with a St. Laurent (Ried Harterberg). Landauer-Gisperg from Tattendorf took third place with Pinot Noir Ausser Joch, which the experts considered to be the best Pinot of the evening. Two St. Laurents landed in fourth and fifth place. Namely from Johanneshof Reinisch (Ried Frauenfeld) and Weingut Schneider (Ried Frauenfeld). Both companies are based in Tattendorf.

The audience was from the Schwertführer wineries “35”, Heinrich Hartl III and Weingut Drexler-Leeb are enthusiastic. Swordsman “35” The Pinot Noir Spada also won the wine show, while the St. Laurent Harterberg from the same company came fourth. The Hartl III winery also made it into the top five twice. Pinot Noir Ried Graf Weingartl (second place) and St. Laurent Ried Kräutergarten (fifth place) tasted particularly good. This also applies to the experts’ favorite. St. Laurent Ried Iglsee from Drexler-Leeb came third with the audience.
