The man from Linz wanted to hike from the Almsee over the Neunerkogel, Zehnerkogel, Elferkogel and Zwölferkogel. He was supposed to come home from this multi-day tour on Saturday. When his parents still hadn’t heard from their son on Sunday, they contacted the police.
The missing man’s car was then found near Almsee, the police confirmed. A major search operation began on Sunday. Fire brigade, mountain rescue, search dog teams, helicopters with thermal imaging cameras and a drone searched for the missing person. The search had to be called off at around 11:20 p.m. and was resumed on Monday morning.
An entry from Linzer was found in a summit book on the Föhrengrabeneck, which he is said to have written on Thursday: “Let’s go to the mitten”. Therefore, the search teams concentrated on the area around the mitten. The man was finally found dead on Monday morning, but nothing is known about the exact circumstances of his death.
