The Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (Cuti) published the monitor of the situation of the industry Information Technology (IT) compared to the first half of the year where they measured the sector’s expectations for the end of the year, the state of employment, sales and the profile of IT professionals.
What refers to the sales, established that 41% of the companies had an increase in sales, of which 32% obtained a modest increase, while 9% in a more notable way.
In this sense, 29% established that sales were sustained in accordance with the expectations for this first semester while 25% expressed a slight resignation in sales. Only 5% of companies specified a significant decrease in their sales.
Business opportunities
As for the opportunities In closing deals, 88% of IT companies have had an increase in the first half of the year. Of that total, 24% corresponds to highly relevant opportunities, while 64% refers to business opportunities of lesser magnitude. On the other hand, 12% of the technology companies They have not perceived new business opportunities during the first six months of the year.
Regarding the general situation within the sector, the companies revealed a moderate optimism with 44% expecting the situation to improve slightly, while another 44% consider that there will be no changes. However, 12% consider that the situation will deteriorate, either slightly, with 10%, or significantly, with 2%.
Jobs that remain stable
In relation to the jobs generated within the sector, 46% have maintained their work team, while 37% managed to increase their number of collaborators. However, 17% admitted to having reduced their workforce.
In this sense, there was also a distinction decrease of the trend around hiring new workers in the sector. Despite this, from Cuti’s monitoring they established that there is notable optimism regarding employment expectations, where emphasis is placed on the role of Information Technology Specialista position is difficult to capture and retain in the IT companies.
Refering to geographical distribution of IT personnel, of the total of the most important companies located in Montevideo, 29% celebrated carrying out employment contracts with people from inside the country, while 41% with people who live abroad.
