The 8-0 defeat against Traiskirchen last Saturday was the absolute lowest point for FC Mauerwerk in the Regionalliga East season so far. The club from Vienna’s 11th district actually wanted to attack Simmering this season: after eight games, the third division team is at the bottom of the table with just three points.
Mustafa Elnimr, president and patron of the club, has now even made serious allegations against his own team. He told a Viennese daily newspaper that there could have been match-fixing. An ex-player called him after the match against Traiskirchen and said that there was a bet against masonry and that there were apparently winnings.
Club manager Thomas Friz also finds the latest results strange: “So when you see the training performance and then compare it with the game performance, you notice stark differences. You can’t deny that.” Which is why the matter was referred to a lawyer.
