Spain is looking for seven tourists with Covid-19 who escaped from quarantine

The other six also tested positive and all were quarantined, but when health authorities visited the house on Wednesday they found it was empty, the spokeswoman added.

The head of Health of Extremadura, José María Vergeles, announced that the international health authorities had been alerted because “this represents a problem for public health.”

“We do not know where they are,” Vergeles acknowledged at a press conference and said that this case “is an example of what should not be done.”

“If they have left (Spain), they have left by road, because if they had gone to the airport, someone who would have demanded some proof of them would have already realized the situation”added.

The Dutch Foreign Ministry claimed to have no knowledge of the matter and denied versions of the Dutch press that claimed the group had requested consular assistance.

Although Spain is one of the European countries with the lowest incidence of coronavirus thanks to the high vaccination rate, infections are on the rise.

The incidence on Thursday exceeded 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in fourteen days for the first time in more than two months, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
