In autumn the hiking boots will be laced up again. The Weberbartl apple hike in the country’s unofficial cider capital (from 10 a.m.) offers the best opportunity for exercise in the fresh air on Sunday. When the weather is good, 2,500 to 3,000 hikers are expected in Samarein. The route leads along a nine-kilometer-long circular path past numerous farms, cider taverns, the cider museum, the fruit educational garden and various nature discovery stations.
At the center of this gourmet hike under the patronage of the OÖN is the Weberbartl apple, a typical old variety from the orchard region of the Naturpark Obst-Hügel-Land. It is named after the Weberbartl estate in the town of Furth. The apple is said to have spread from this farm. And of course the culinary delights are not neglected either. The local clubs spoil you with apple flour dishes, fruit juices, cider and a selection of warm dishes.
“The nine-kilometer hike is also suitable for a half-day excursion, but we recommend taking your time; there is an entertainment program for the whole family at the stations,” emphasizes Rainer Silber, managing director of the Obst-Hügel-Land Nature Park. Visitors get an insight into cider and juice production, and children can squeeze fresh apple juice. “Wetterhans” Hans Gessl invites you to the “Samareiner Mostbartln”, where the “most senses” are activated, and visitors can win nature park products in a Mostdipf competition.
Parking spaces are available in the town center. All details below www.obsthuegelland.at
