It was 25 years ago when the Urfahr-Raum district complained about a massive decline in purchasing power and had just 2,571 companies with 7,472 employees. “We have to be able to do something about it,” thought the two visionaries Wilhelm Ganglberger, then WK district chairman, and WK district office manager Franz Tauber, and rolled up their sleeves. Impulses were needed to give the district an economic boost.
That was the start of the Guute initiative, which was launched to create regional awareness and strengthen cooperation between companies. The aim was to reduce the outflow of purchasing power and strengthen the district. “Today you can say that the good thing was more than successful,” says WK district chairwoman Sabine Lindorfer, happy about the numbers that speak for themselves. “We currently have 6,809 companies with 13,420 employees in the Urfahr district. This makes the Urfahr area one of the most economically dynamic districts in Upper Austria.”
Celebrated numerous successes
Since it began in 1998, Guute has been able to look back on many significant successes. These include the development into what is now the largest regional business association in Austria, the introduction of the Guute Cards, numerous business meetings and trade fairs or the Guute Trees initiative, which supports forest farmers whose trees have been damaged by bark beetles and which makes an active contribution against this contributes to climate change.
In particular, we succeeded in strengthening cohesion within the entrepreneurial landscape in the district. “The intention was to put and promote regionality and quality as well as cooperation and innovation at the forefront of all activities. These four values make up the core values of the initiative today more than ever,” says Franz Tauber, pointing at the current expansion far beyond the district boundaries. “We are now represented in eight out of 18 districts in the country. The spread happened completely on its own. We didn’t force it as a regional business association, but the companies approached us independently and wanted to become part of the movement because they share the values wanted to share and benefit from the numerous advantages of the initiative,” says Tauber with regard to the strategic long-term project of expanding the movement to the whole of Upper Austria.
Yesterday, September 19th, exactly on the day the company was founded, there was an anniversary celebration at Steyregg Castle. The well-wishers included WK President Doris Hummer and State Economics Councilor Markus Achleitner.
