Ahead of the start of the autumn wage round next Monday, Katzian reiterated the union’s position that – as in the past – the basis for haggling is the average of price increases over the past twelve months. This “rolling inflation” is 9.6 percent, below which there can be no conclusion in the upcoming metal worker wage round. “We are not changing the rules of the game, we are not negotiating for the future,” said Katzian.
After all, the social partners in the metal industry also concluded last year with rolling inflation as a basis, although inflation had already increased when the agreement was reached in autumn 2022. At that time, the employers argued that this increase would be compensated for this year anyway – and that must now apply.
Katzian announced the presentation of a nine-point economic stimulus program for tomorrow, Wednesday. He didn’t give any details yet, just this much: One topic should be the expansion of the electricity grid, which would have a dampening effect on inflation.
