A dry spell of ten months was finally ended on Tuesday evening: SK BMD Vorwärts Steyr celebrated a 2-1 away win in the supplementary game of the Regionalliga Mitte against the WAC Amateurs in Wolfsberg – it was the red-whites’ first win in the Strangers since the 2-0 win in Dornbirn on November 11th last year, back then in the 2nd league.
SKV’s current life insurance company, 26-year-old striker Hamza Ech Cheikh, once again became the father of the victory. The 1.89 meter tall Italian had already put his team 1-0 ahead after a quarter of an hour following an ideal pass from Alvaro Collazo. In stoppage time he scored his first brace for Steyr: Ech Cheikh headed in the 2-1 winning goal in the 96th minute from a corner kick from Mirsad Sulejmanovic. It was his sixth goal this season; the Steyr team, who have now moved up to fourth place with 16 points, have scored nine in total.
However, they also had a bit of bad luck at WAC: Lukas Prokop only hit the crossbar from 20 meters after just eleven minutes. Coach Markus Eitl’s team was once again compact in defense. WAC’s equalizer came from a penalty.
For the red and whites, the game continues on Friday. Vöcklamarkt is waiting away in the Upper Austria derby. The Hausruckviertel team are currently in eleventh place with eight points and have the weakest offense in the league with eight goals scored.
