The new bio-heating plant in Andorf is scheduled to go into operation next January

Together with the shareholders of Bio-Heiz-GmbH Andorf, Mayor Karl Buchinger (VP) invited construction company representatives and the media to visit the new location for the biomass heating plant yesterday. “We have reached our limits at our current location,” says Karl Mayer, managing director of Bio-Heiz-GmbH. “Andorf is growing and so is our number of customers.” With a pipe network of 25 kilometers, Bio-Heiz-GmbH now supplies almost 1,000 households. This corresponds to almost half of all households in the community of 5,100 residents. And the trend is still increasing, explains Mayer.

Sustainable partner

For this reason, one of the largest heat supply systems in the region is currently being built in the town of Heitzing. The new heating plant has a nominal heat output of 4.8 megawatts. The use of state-of-the-art boiler technology is intended to enable the permitted limit values ​​for air pollution control to be significantly exceeded. Heating operations at the new location will begin in mid to late January.

“Especially in times of climate change and the energy transition, it is important to have a reliable and sustainable partner when it comes to heat supply in the community,” says Mayor Buchinger. With the sustainable use of wood as a resource and ongoing investments, Bio-Heiz-GmbH is an important company in the economic life of the region. The required heating material is primarily sourced from a radius of 50 kilometers. This means that not only private households, but also almost all community-owned buildings are supplied with room heat from the Bio-Heiz-GmbH network, which has existed since 1996. At that time, the biomass heating plant was launched to supply the district old people’s and nursing home in Andorf.

Andorf is working on the energy transition

“The past times of crisis in particular have shown how important it is to rely on sustainable energy sources from the region, which also increase regional added value,” says Mayor Buchinger. In Andorf we are working intensively on the energy transition. Most recently, the sewage treatment plant was equipped with a 120 kWp photovoltaic system. According to Buchinger, further 230 kWp PV systems will be installed in Andorf next year.
