The Walding Red Cross celebrated its 50th anniversary. Since January 2, 1973, the 348 Red Cross employees have been helping everyone who needs help – with enormous commitment. “It all started in an apartment,” said Josef Haslinger and Uschi Peherstorfer, two founding members and veterans of the Walding Red Cross, on the occasion of the anniversary celebration. “In our free time and while on duty, we renovated and furnished the apartment. We were like a family.” The rescue service started with a used rescue car. There are now four medical emergency vehicles and two ambulance transport vehicles. The “Meals on Wheels” team uses three vehicles to deliver almost 100 portions of warm meals to its clients every day. First aid courses, journal service, visiting service, youth Red Cross, disaster relief, supervised travel, reading promotion, Red Cross market and ROKO have supplemented the wide range of tasks over the years. “The state structure would not function without a functioning civil society,” assured RK Vice President Günter Mayr during the interview round at the anniversary celebration.

“It’s nice to be able to experience this voluntary togetherness,” said State Secretary Claudia Plakolm, who was also enthusiastic about this cross-generational cooperation and mutual motivation. “This is only possible with a lot of commitment and cohesion,” says local branch manager Christoph Kaindl, who warmly thanked his people who fill the office with life and rush to help the citizens.
