The Vienna City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) called for a complete clarification of the incident in the Donaustadt clinic via a broadcast.
He also criticized the fact that a photo was taken before the patient was helped. “The employees always have to take care of the patients first. It could also be a matter of seconds. No first aider has time for a photo shoot. That is unacceptable to me,” stated Hacker. He quickly demanded a complete explanation from the hospital’s management staff, the medical director and the nursing director. The photo was taken in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. On Sunday, ten patients were said to be lying in corridor beds in one ward, the report says.
“The situation in the hospitals is tense. This is nothing new. We are all fighting to make things better. All managers are taking part in this discussion. But withholding help can never serve to clarify a position,” emphasized Hacker. The FPÖ demanded that Hacker go. The city councilor for health is mocking the medical staff, said the Viennese FPÖ leader, councilor Dominik Nepp, in a broadcast.
A response from the Vienna Health Association (Wigev) to an inquiry from the APA about the case was still pending on Thursday. On Tuesday, Wigev said that there were 949 closed beds compared to a total of 5,492 available beds in hospitals. This means that almost 15 percent of the 6,441 systemized, i.e. officially approved, beds were not available. 936 beds were currently free on a daily basis (excluding AKH, note).
