The ORF early journal reported on Friday that Digitization State Secretary Florian Tursky (ÖVP) assured in a broadcast: “We take action against phone number misuse!”
In so-called spoofing, calls are made from an Austrian number from abroad – but there is a fraudster behind them. However, the numbers cannot simply be blocked, otherwise the mostly unsuspecting owners would lose them. “The regulatory authority’s draft regulation therefore stipulates that Austrian operators must verify the telephone number when calling from abroad with Austrian telephone numbers. If there is a case of abuse, the call may not be delivered”says Tursky.
