The polycrises can only be solved together

Fear, uncertainty, worries: the multitude of simultaneous crises that people are confronted with weighs on their emotions. When pessimism spreads throughout a society, there is fire at the roof. “But resignation is a luxury that we cannot afford,” said former minister Rudi Anschober on Thursday evening in the theater barn at Wilhering Abbey.

At the start of the second “Expedition for Humanism” one thing was clear: climate crisis, war, energy crisis, inflation, price increases, they are all connected and require quick action from humanity. There are ways out and solutions, it’s just a matter of using them, and better today than tomorrow. “To do this, we have to cross borders, form alliances and combine the ways out and solutions with hope,” said Anschober in his keynote speech. “If we only think in terms of catastrophes, then it robs us of our strength.”

What encourages him and the participants in a subsequent panel discussion is the fact that not only are there solutions, but that the energy transition, for example, has already begun in many areas. The solidarity of society, which was noticeable at the beginning of the corona pandemic, also showed that working together is the key to change. “Understanding creates security.”

“We think too much and feel too little,” actor Cornelius Obonya quoted Charlie Chaplin in a reading, before making it clear that the way out of the polycrisis lies through debate. You should never leave these.

This is also the intention of the organizer of the “expedition”, the Forum Humanismus Wilhering. House owner and board member Abbot Reinhold Dessl sees the exchange of ideas, the weighing up of different perspectives and positions of different people as the path to change that needs to be taken in order to find our way out of the polycrisis.
