The Writers Guild (WGA) said the talks should continue on Saturday. In the US screenwriters’ strike that has been going on since the beginning of May, representatives of the writers’ union and film and television producers (AMPTP) sat down at the table again after a week-long standstill.
As US media reported, Disney boss Bob Iger, David Zaslav from media giant Warner Bros. Discovery, Ted Sarandos from Netflix and Donna Langley, chairwoman of the Universal Pictures studio, took part in the talks.
The tough struggle is about a new, three-year employment contract for the authors. Citing industry insiders, the magazine “Hollywood Reporter” reported that rules for dealing with artificial intelligence were among the points of contention. Other demands revolve around salary increases, better working conditions and higher subsidies for health and pension benefits.
Hollywood operations have been largely at a standstill for months. The screenwriters went on strike in May, and around 160,000 actors from the SAG-AFTRA acting union joined the writers in mid-July.
