The GAK has secured its lead in the 2nd football league. The Graz team won their home game against FC Liefering on Saturday 3-0 (2-0) and are now five points ahead of their first pursuers St. Pölten and Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz.
The Lieferingers are still only in 14th place. Vienna and FC Dornbirn drew 0-0 in Vienna-Döbling, and both teams find themselves in the middle of the table.
The decisive man for the GAK was Daniel Maderner, who scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season. The attacker benefited from an unsuccessful goal kick from Liefering goalkeeper Jonas Krumrey in the 7th minute and scored again shortly before the half-time whistle (45th). After Soumaila Diabate (35th) was shown yellow and red, the Lieferingers only played with ten men. Michael Cheukoua (76th) finally ended Salzburg’s hopes of winning a point a quarter of an hour before the end. The guests also made a serious mistake.
Vienna and Dornbirn played a goalless game after both sides had chances to take the lead. A goal by Christoph Monschein was disallowed due to a foul in the making. In Bregenz, the Rieders struggled against the newcomer, but couldn’t get beyond the draw.
