The first away win of the season in the middle of the week at the WAC Amateurs had raised the hopes of the SK BMD Vorwärts Steyr fans. After the 3-0 defeat in the derby at Vöcklamarkt, however, they came back down to earth: the newly formed red and whites are still not a dangerous away team. Coach Markus Eitl puts it into perspective: “That was our best performance of the season so far.” The early 0-1 didn’t play into his team’s hands, because after that Vöcklamarkt defended compactly. “And with the fourth shot at our goal it was already 3-0.”
In the Hausruckviertel, the Steyr team fell behind in the third minute after a goal from Umberto Gruber. The home team then placed their main focus on defense. This gave the SKV more play, but Markus Eitl’s team were not really compelling in front of the opponent’s goal.
Vöcklamarkt, on the other hand, came dangerously in front of Valerian Hüttner’s goal on the counterattack. After he was able to prevent the score from 0-2 with a foot reflex in the middle of the first half, Toni Mestrovic finally defeated the forward goalkeeper in the 28th minute. Just before the break, a penalty for Vorwärts was withdrawn due to a foul on Hamza Ech Cheikh due to an offside position. Michael Eberl scored against the onrushing Steyr team in the 79th minute to make it 3-0. The red card for Ech Cheikh shortly before the end after an assault was a bitter defeat.
After nine rounds, Vorwärts is in fifth place with 16 points and a goal difference of 9:9, seven points behind leader Wels.
