The deceased was a 44-year-old Polish citizen with no permanent address. According to the police, he was also not registered in the federal territory. It had long been established that there was no homicide and that the man had not died at the hands of another.

“The forensic medicine’s determination that the small hole in the skull was caused by an accident during his lifetime and a subsequent operation was finally confirmed by relatives,” said police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger. The man died of natural causes, although the exact cause of death could no longer be determined. The already skeletonized body was probably lying in a bush for several months before it was discovered.

The discovery of the body caused a stir after three brutal attacks on homeless people in Vienna in the summer, which in two cases ended in the death of the victims.
