The Maldonado Departmental Board approved, with votes from all political parties, a series of measures to regulate the service of delivery within the department.
The decree of the Departmental Board covers all home delivery services for food and other products using bicycles, mopeds, quadricycles, motorcycles, scooters and tricycles.
Deliveries must now have a moped inspected by the Municipality of Maldonado (IMM), so that it is identified as a vehicle for delivery purposes.
Likewise, all delivery drivers will be required to have total (life) insurance, with the intention of providing a regulatory framework that contemplates the lives of deliveries, based on the elimination of risk factors.
The mayor Fernandino of the National Party (P.N.), Christian Estelaassured this Sunday at a press conference that the initiative file remained “stepped on” in the Departmental Board for 11 years.
“In Maldonado They will be given a license for deliveries, in addition to having their motorcycle protected by the SOA (Mandatory Automobile Insurance) and inspected by the IMM, they are asked to have full insurance,” Estela explained.

The departmental councilor assured that “today everyone in the apps washes his hands”, and that to this day “businessmen force deliveries to be their own companies”.
“When a guy broke his leg, he was left lying on a bed and no one came to see him. I’m very sure that a guy from the upper middle class is not going to spend 10 hours on a motorcycle, and these guys come out of the most popular places , more humble, to make the daily wage”, he pointed out in reference to life insurance.
Wake, explained that the regulation will force delivery drivers to carry a license as if it were a second driver’s license. “Since you are already a company because you are forced by appsyou have your license deliveryand when you went through the IMM with the card, you already have total life insurance,” he concluded.
